Trier

Brian and I can't wait for our family and friends to start visiting us here in Germany. There are always festivals going on in the villages around us. It's nice to know that we can find something new to do on the weekends. The only thing is Brian can't enjoy the views when we're out driving around. So when our friends Ashley and Ryan asked if we wanted to hang out and go see some sights in Trier, we thought we would try the train. Kinsley loved it and couldn't sit still. Thankfully we packed a bag full of snacks and toys to keep her busy. Here are some of our train pictures.

 Pretty view from the train

I don't remember what town we were passing through but I tried to take a picture of the castle. You can kind of see it behind the houses.

The arts and craft show going on that weekend had the streets overflowing with people and vendors with all kinds of interesting things.

Little princess wanted to pick the flowers

We found a park for the kids to run around and get rid of some of their energy. Of course the energy just kept coming. This was the first time Kinsley let one of us push her for longer than a second on the swing.

Old Roman bath house. We didn't take the tour but Trier has so much to see that this would be a great place to come back to.

This is the Basilica of Constantine (or Aula Palatina).

The picture below is a memorial for the Jews killed during WWII. I was told by a friend that they held hundreds and hundreds of Jews down this street until they were taken to concentration camps. There were between 70 and 80 people living in each house and they bartered with one another. Although there are doors to businesses along this street, it is not used. It is a quiet place to remember what happened.

This sign was at the street entrance.
(I didn't get a picture of the walls but you could see where the gate use to be to lock the Jews in).

Cathedral of Saint Peter is the oldest church in Germany and is extremely beautiful inside. Inside there is a room that's called the west choir, where some of the archbishops are buried. There is  also a wall that displays all the names of all the Bishops of Trier.

This is an old Roman city gate called the Porta Nigra also known as the black gate. It is the only one left standing of the four gates that use to surround the city. We were able to walk through each floor and see the view of the city.

This is a view of one of the main streets through Trier.

Some random place a found on the top of a hill outside the city from the top of Porta Nigra.

If you look closely you can see Kinsley passed out in the carrier.

It was definitely a long day for all of us but we had a blast getting out and seeing something new and spending time with friends. What should have been an easy ride home became a journey for us. Apparently there was something on the tracks and no trains were headed towards Kaiserslautern (were we left our car). So we were asked to exit the train and wait. They did eventually get the tracks cleared and our bag of tricks could only hold off Kinsley from going wild. We were exhausted by the time we made it home.
