Our First Visitor!

So my plan was to finish the few blogs before the new year. Kinsley and I were busy enjoying all the time we had with Brian on his days off.

Our computer got a virus and wouldn't connect to the internet. On top of that our tablet stopped working when it rebooted itself after an update. Thankfully, Brian found someone to fix our computer and our tablet is back in the states getting fixed. It's as a good thing we got a warranty because the Geek Squad tech guy said that some tablets have been known for doing that. Of course you won't see that listed as one of the lovely features when you're at Best Buy checking them out.

Since my last post my mom came over for a visit. I knew it wouldn't be long before she made her way over to come see us. It was nice to have the company and see a familiar face. Originally, her plan was to come for Thanksgiving but she accidentally booked the wrong week. Oops! In a week's time, it's hard to do and see everything but we definitely made the most of it.

Kinsley enjoyed having her Oma here to play with her. But I don't think my mom was prepared for the endless amount of energy that this child has. I know for a fact that even though my mom knew the weather was going to be cold, she definitely wasn't ready for it. The weather hasn't been as cold as that week since. Besides, Texans aren't use to winter weather. Then again Texas has seen cooler weather so far this year than we have over here in Germany. We have heard that it might come sometime in February or March. Our luck that will happen while we're back in the states.

The adventures began the second we picked my mom up from the airport and headed out towards Nuremberg. Not enough time in the day for fun when the sun sets around five. We didn't let that stop us from checking out the castle there.

Day two and we were on our way to Regelsbach to see where my grandma grew up. I think I can speak for both my mom and myself when I say, this was the best part of the week. To see the house that my grandmother grew up in and her village. Not to mention the beautiful church she attended and was baptized.

My best friend Rachel from college was also in Germany at the same time as my mom. She came over with her mom to visit her sister Lydia. Rachel had mentioned that they were going to Heidelberg. Since it was on the way home we stopped by the castle for a tour. Like I had hoped, we ran into Rachel and spent some time together.

World's largest wine barrel. It can hold over 220,000 liters of wine. There are stairs on both sides of the barrel leading up to the dance floor on top. Can you spot my mother in the picture?

Brian was scheduled to work on Thanksgiving and I really wanted to cook a big meal. So we spent the day at home cooking on Wednesday. Kinsley and my mom stayed busy playing while I got everything together and by the time Brian got home we stuffed our faces full of yummy Thanksgiving food.

Thursday we took it easy as well and spent time showing my mom around base and the surrounding area. Friday was our day to meet Rachel, Lydia and their mom in Koblenz. With a Christmas market and a castle on our agenda, it was going to be a great day. The plan was to take a ride on the lift over the Rhine River up to the castle but the website failed to mention that the lifts only run on the weekend.

This is where the Rhine and Mosel Rivers meet in Koblenz.

Market wasn't too busy because it was opening day. It made for a nice day without having to deal with the crowds. The market wasn't all in one location either. So we had to do a little walking to see it all. Good food and good company made for a fun day.

I couldn't have asked for a better week. Spending time with my mom (who is always game for anything) and seeing my best friend and her family as well.

Kinsley and I spent Thanksgiving day with some friends and helped cook dinner for a few airmen who didn't have family here for the holiday. Once again, I ate way more than I needed to. Maybe next year we'll try something a little less traditional.

Ciao!
